No friggin' way!

image

This is Kristen Bell. She's gorgeous, right? Great skin, cute dress, nice hair, blah to the blah.

I want to talk about her knees, because this picture is like a revelation for me.

Hi. My name is Anna, and I have horrible knees. They're really round and shapeless and they kind of ooze right into the top of my calves. They're worse right now because I haven't been to the gym much lately (but remember how I ate a granola bar last night? That's gotta be helping.). They're better  when I'm a lunge-a-holic and a squat queen. But they're never like the shapely, lovely knees of my sister-with-legs-like-a-colt, Lylla. I'm not sure where she plucked her knees from on the family tree, but mine came straight from my ever-loving mom. And heaven bless her, those knees carried 8 children so why should I complain?

Well, icky knees are a hard thing to conquer. Most people have knees with some relative definition. As in, you can tell that the thigh has come to a stop and that the calf will come soon thereafter. I  have none of that. Just ooze. And I've always been ashamed of it - especially since the inside of my knees round out toward each other. Ugh. It's just a big mess.

But, Kristin Bell! Look at her! She's gorgeous and she HAS MY KNEES! And you know what? They don't look so terribly bad after all. Yes, yes, she's 20 sizes smaller than me and not retaining water. But it gives me much hope to think that someone with MY KNEES can go running around with them sticking out like that. Glory hallelujah, I just want to stare at them all night!

So for now I'm stuck with the water retaining, baby supporting, tree trunk versions. But maybe in the future you'll run into me somewhere sunning my knees and you won't even recognize me because you'll be all, "Wow! Those are some great gams!"

I also have Mom's knees. And lately, I have her booty and her belly, too. Treadmill, treadmill, treadmill here I come.

Sorry Mom. I love you, knees and all.

Neigh! Lyss, I'd take that compliment. Have you ever read Moosh in Indy? She's got the exact same issue with her knees. Too funny.

I never knew people cared so much about knees. Now I am paranoid that mine are hideous and nobody told me and I've been subjecting people to their horror for 30 years.

(Off to drag full length mirror closer to computer so I can compare...)

Anna, reading your blog makes my day! You are so witty and funny:)

I read two people magazines while waiting for my car (without kids = pure bliss) and focused entirely on knees. What I observed: Katie Holmes, not so pretty in the knee dept. Reese Witherspoon and Renee Zellweger both have lovely knees.

I didn't even realize I have knees. Too busy pushing in hip boinks and counting divots in my rear. But now, thanks to this post, I can add them to my list of Things That Went Horribly Wrong On My Body.

Well, I certainly didn't mean to add one more thing to the list of Stupid Body Issue Things We Focus On...
But my knees have literally, physically been number 1 on my list for about eleventy hundred years.
So, you know. I thought I'd share.
I've seen all of your knees and I'd like to say yours are all beautiful.

You're making me laugh because I have the same ones! And I HATE them. And I never, ever would have noticed that about her. So what you're saying is...if I lose half my body size I might be content with my knees?

Oh my goodness! She really does have horrible knees! Good for her for flaunting them! One good thing about being pregnant, I guess, is that no one is looking at your knees--they're looking at your belly. Yet, the beautiful comments that complete strangers make about your belly size completely negates the fact that they're not looking at your knees! Such is life.
