"You introduced DEATH to our party?!"
And so begins the saga of the three dead fish. Poor Zach.

It was such a bright and sunny day
and little Zach just wanted to play.
Laura arrived and had a large box
what was in it?
Not a fox.
"It has something to do with fish"
she replied, tucking the box away
so as not to be spied.
And so with a glance backward
Zach frittered away
and enjoyed his party for the rest of the day.
After lunch came presents
one at a time.
But Laura was gone
and the fish did still hide.
"Let's wait for our friend
to return once again"
said Mama Christy
to her impatient little hen.
We'll wait, then, you'll see
it will be great fun then
to open your box
in front of your friend.
So he waited and waited
till the days end.
When suddenly who should appear?
Laura and Preston and all of their gear.
The time had arrived
to open the box.
The group gathered together
there were oohs, there were aahs.
Scott, the daddy, took cautious measure
to check first to see just what was the treasure.
He laughed, he giggled, he look once again
then dryly replied, "well, then"
There definately were three fish in a box
however the poor fish had run out of luck.
They floated on top of the water, so frail
the fish were not living
they were dead as a nail.
And so the day ended
the party so fun.
And what better way to end it
than to make a run
for sushi
yum.

Three dead fish sound about right for a party. I didn't think anything could top the frozen dead squirrel in our hot tub that Zach got to see. Maybe he'll grow up to be a taxidermist or at least animal activist?

Did someone at least explain "fish heaven" for them so they aren't scarred for life?? Wait, they're boys... maybe they could dissect them?? Ahhhh what the heck, put 'em on a necklace!

It's funny how after witnessing the death of the three fish, we still opted for SUSHI!! We could have made our own! ha ha ha

I have read the little poem about our little "episode" and it is definitely going into our family journal...Anna - thanks for capturing the moment! It was so fun to read! I didn't realize the irony of us having sushi that night until you pointed it out... are we sick or what? OK..now someone has to tell me about the frozen squirrel thing- now that sounds gross, disgusting, interesting? Somehow 3 dead goldfish don't sound so bad.
